Scriptorium Workshops

About

As part of our Derry City and Strabane District Council's Heritage Month, Áras Cholmcille is hosting two separate workshops delivered by master calligrapher and manuscript expert Timothy O'Neill.

Expert on the 'Cathach of Cholm Cille' and collaborator on Irish translations of Seamus Heaney's lyrics, Timothy O'Neill makes a rare visit to Derry to tutor participants in Irish Majuscule; the script perfected in Columban scriptoria throughout these islands and read and copied from the shores of the Foyle to the Rhine and far side of the Alpes for hundreds of years.

Tim will guide participants through a step-by-step learning process and classes are limited to 25 pupils.

Over the course of approximately 5 hours, with a break for lunch, you will learn how to write in St Colm Cille's script.

This is a rare opportunity to learn from a master scribe & each participant will leave with a completed piece of text in Irish Majuscule.

Booking is on a first come first booked basis.

Full payment secures your spor.

Cost: £65 which includes expert tuition, lunch, all materials and a calligraphy pen.
