About
City Dance proposes a large-scale, high-energy street performance titled “Walter on the Dance Floor”, a bold and vibrant addition to the “Awakening the Walled City” trail.
The story reimagines Walter, the skeletal figure from Derry’s coat of arms, as a spirited and funky character who returns each Halloween to host a dance party for otherworldly beings. As local legend has it, Walter was cast into the castle dungeons by his cousin and starved in 1332-but now, each Halloween, he springs back to life and brings the undead with him in a joyful explosion of movement and music.
Set to a soundtrack inspired by 1970s–1980s disco and funk, our performance is visually inspired by Saturday Night Fever and reimagines the dungeons as a party hub bursting with lights, colour, and rhythm. A diverse cast of 10–20 spooky characters—including ghosts, skeletons, and other fantastical beings, will join Walter to deliver a 10-12 minute dance performance, repeated 6 times nightly. The choreography blends styles from jive to hip-hop, showcasing a spectrum of talent and appealing to audiences of all ages.
