About
ATHLETICS Ireland has allocated the National Senior Cross Country Championships to Derry, where it will be hosted by the City of Derry Spartans club on November 23.
It will be the third time in four years that the prestigious event has been held in Ulster after a memorable hosting by the Cranford club in Downings in 2022 and in Irvinestown last year.
Apart from it being a championship that dates back to 1881 in one form or another, it is also the trial for the European Cross Country Championships to be held this year in Lagoa, Portugal, on December 14.
From originally being a race solely for men, the event has now developed into a full-day programme of top-tier competition from U12 to senior level, attracting athletes and supporters from across the country.
