Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Whether you are coming to Derry for the day or planning a longer city break, getting here couldn't be easier. Did you know that we’re just a three hour drive from Dublin and a 90 minute drive from Belfast. You can also reach us via our airport, City of Derry Airport, which has direct access from many of the UK's major cities. Or, fly to Belfast International Airport or Belfast City Airport and hop on the Aircoach which will take you directly into the city centre.

This year, Translink are operating late-night bus and rail services, making getting to Derry all that bit easier.

Breakfast, Lunch or Brunch

In Derry, you will be spoiled for choice when it comes to our food scene, especially at this time of year. If you are looking for both comfort and a delicious start to your day, why not visit The Scullery. Enjoy the atmosphere of a vibrant coffee shop in Derry City centre catering for needs of tourists and locals alike, specialising in breakfast and lunch. However, in true festive spirit, we recommend a Bottomless Brunch in the hotel known for its love of Prosecco. Kickstart your Christmas day out at Shipquay Hotel with their brunch and bubbles; they also offer a choice of tasty, non-alcoholic cocktails.

Shopping

A shopping trip in Derry~Londonderry will most definitely not disappoint. From luxury boutique stores, to high street chains and our stunning craft shops, you’ll find everything you need and more.

The Craft Village - the hidden jewel in the crown of the city - is a must-visit. A reconstruction of an 18th Century Street and 19th Century Square, the Craft Village provides an eclectic mix of artisan craft shops, balconied apartments, licensed restaurant and coffee shops.

Our shopping centres, Foyleside & Richmond, also house your favourite high-street brands including the newest arrival, Rituals.

Cosy Up

After an afternoon of shopping, it's important to stop, rest and refuel in one of our coffee shops. Whether you're a coffee lover, tea drinker or a fan of a festive hot chocolate, the Sandwich Co is the perfect spot.

Magical Attractions

This year, Derry~Londonderry is host to a number of Christmas attractions including St. Columb's Magic Kingdom, The Wild Arctic Experience at Wild Ireland and Lock n Load's Secret Santa Experience. So, if you and the family or friends are wanting to embrace festive funfairs, dazzling light trails and meet Santa himself, be sure to visit these attractions on your festive day out.

Dinner & Drinks

Brunch was a while ago so, now it's time to experience the vibrant nightlife Derry has to offer. The reality is, it's hard to suggest just one place for dinner. However, one of the newest venues to our food scene is Umi, an Asian fusion resaurant serving sushi, dumplings, tapas style small plates as well as big plates if you're feeling hungry. They also have a fully licensed bar with a selection of beers, cocktails and a wine list carefully chosen to pair with their dishes.

It's Christmas! So, why not coninue the night in one of our local pubs. It can't be denied, Peadar O'Donnells is one of Derry's favourite watering holes. However, you need to be quick if you wish to cosy up and enjoy this traditional setting for the night. If you don't manage to squeeze in, not to worry - we have plenty more places you will be sure to enjoy.

Located in Guildhall Square, the Guildhall Taphouse steeped in history, yet offers a fresh, alternative take on the traditional bar. They serve food daily until 6pm but, expect live music, craft beers and cocktails all night long. There's plenty of phot opportunties in the square with Ireland's tallest Christmas tree! Another firm favourite is Blackbird. Situated next to the city's bus depot, Blackbird is an ideal venue to enjoy a coffee and a nibble, or a cocktail in the heart of the city.
