We are thrilled to welcome two of Northern Ireland's finest crime writers to The Helicon. Edgar Award winner Adrian McKinty, creator of the acclaimed Sean Duffy series, joins Booker Prize-nominated novelist and screenwriter Eoin McNamee, whose new collection The Comets explores lives shaped by violence, loss and resilience. Together they will discuss crime writing, storytelling, Northern Ireland, and the inspiration behind their acclaimed books and remarkable literary careers.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Eoin McNamee first entered public consciousness with the explosive novel Resurrection Man, translated into 23 languages and filmed in 1995 with the author writing the script. He followed that with I Want You starring Rachel Weisz (Dir: Michael Winterbottom). His next novel The Blue Tango was nominated for the Man Booker prize in 2001. His 19 novels have been nominated for and won many other awards, and featured on the New York Times bestseller list. Television credits include An Bronntanas (TG4), Vikings Valhalla for Netflix and the highly successful Welsh drama Hinterland (BBC/S4C). He has written 8 radio plays for BB R4, winning the Imison Award. He is currently Director of the Oscar Wilde Centre at Trinity College, Dublin. His latest novel is The Bureau, and The Comets, collected short fiction will be published in October.
Adrian McKinty was born and grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He studied philosophy at Oxford University before moving to Australia and to New York. He is the author of more than a dozen crime novels, including the Dagger and Edgar-award nominated debut Dead I Well May Be, the critically acclaimed Sean Duffy series, and the award-winning standalone thriller The Chain, which was a New York Times and #1 international bestseller. McKinty's books have been translated into over 30 languages and he has won the Edgar Award, the International Thriller Writers Award, the Ned Kelly Award (3 times), the Anthony Award, the Barry Award, the Macavity Award, and the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award. The latest Sean Duffy book by Adrian McKinty released in the UK is Hang on St. Christopher (2026). It is Book 8 in the Edgar Award-winning series and follows Detective Inspector Duffy.
