Nature Boy: A Journey of Birdsong and Belonging

About

Cork-born ornithologist and author Seán Ronayne embarked on a mission in 2021 to record the sound of every bird species in Ireland – that's nearly 200 birds. He has now just three species left to record.

He has travelled to some of the country's most remote and beautiful locations to capture its most elusive species, including the seabird colony of Skellig Michael, a Burren woodland, the corncrake stronghold of Tory Island and a solitary nest in the Donegal uplands.

Seán's illustrative talk, is an inspiring adventure of the sounds, stories and struggles of birds while demonstrating the beauty, importance and fragility of nature.

In 2024, Birdsong, a documentary about Seán's recording project, was released to great acclaim. His book Nature Boy won Irish Biography of the Year 2024 and was shortlisted for Irish Book of the Year.

Expect laughter, expect tears and expect the unexpected – you will never look at the world around you in the same way again.
