John Boyne In Conversation

About

In Conversation with Marie-Louise Kerr

In the seven years since his last visit to HomePlace, John Boyne has gone on to cement his reputation as one of the most successful and critically acclaimed novelists of his generation.

He has published 15 novels for adults, six novels for younger readers, and a collection of short stories in a career spanning more than 30 years. His 2006 novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas has sold more than 11 million copies worldwide and has been adapted for cinema, theatre, ballet, and opera. His many international bestsellers include The Heart's Invisible Furies and A Ladder to the Sky. He has won four Irish Book Awards and many international literary prizes.

Between 2023 and 2025, John published his acclaimed novella sequence, Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. His newest release, titled The Elements, sees the sequence in one volume. It is both an engrossing drama and a moving exploration of responsibility, guilt, blame, trauma, and our capacity for redemption.

We warmly welcome John Boyne's return to The Helicon to discuss his work with Marie-Louise Kerr.
