We are delighted to welcome Daniel Mulhall to The Helicon. A former Irish Ambassador to Kuala Lumpur, Berlin, London and Washington, he is one of Ireland's most distinguished diplomats. Since retiring, he has held academic fellowships at New York University, Cambridge and Harvard. An acclaimed author and commentator on Irish history and literature, his recent books include Ulysses: A Reader's Odyssey and Pilgrim Soul. Join Daniel in conversation with Mark Hennessy for an engaging discussion on diplomacy, literature, Irish identity and his remarkable international career.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Daniel Mulhall is a former Irish Ambassador in Kuala Lumpur, Berlin, London and Washington. Since his retirement from the diplomatic service, he has been Global Distinguished Professor of Irish Studies at Glucksman Ireland House, New York University, Parnell Fellow at Magdalene College, Cambridge and a Resident Fellow at the Institute of Politics, Harvard University. He is Brand Ambassador for the Carlichauns, an animated children's entertainment venture based on Irish folklore. He was a member of the judging panel for the 2026 Dublin Literary Award, the world's most valuable book prize.

He has lectured and published extensively on Irish history and literature. His most recent publications are Ulysses: A Reader's Odyssey (2022) and Pilgrim Soul: W.B. Yeats and the Ireland of his Time (2023). He is a regular media commentator on RTE, Radió na Gaeltachta, TG4, Newstalk FM, BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Northern Ireland, a columnist and a book reviewer.
