A Lough Neagh Sequence

About

Inspired by Seamus Heaney's enduring connection to Lough Neagh, this special afternoon presents a sequence of events exploring the beauty, fragility and future of Ireland's largest lake.

Experience A Love Song to Lough Neagh, an evocative collaboration featuring Jan Carson, the EastSide Choir, Ferna and Ursula Burns, before award-winning journalist Tommy Greene discusses his powerful new book Troubled Waters: How Lough Neagh Is Being Destroyed by Corporate Greed and Political Neglect with Stephen Walker, examining the environmental crisis threatening this vital landscape and the urgent need for action.

The £36 Book & Ticket bundle includes a paperback copy of Troubled Waters.

ABOUT THE EVENT

The afternoon will open with A Love Song to Lough Neagh, a 75-minute collaborative performance piece presented by the 35-member EastSide Arts Choir. Via song and spoken word this relevant and emotive piece proposes a creative response to the current ecological emergency facing the Lough. Exploring the themes of hope and community amidst crisis developed in Jan's new novel Few and Far Between.

The second event in the sequence features award-winning journalist Tommy Greene discussing the greed, corruption, ineptitude and environmental catastrophe that has unfolded against a backdrop of governmental instability and systematic cover-ups around Lough Neagh. With unrivalled access to the story, Greene exposes the fierce battle that will determine the future of this once-thriving ecosystem which now teeters on the brink of ecological collapse.
