Families across the North West are being invited to dive into four days of unforgettable entertainment, creativity and adventure when the Foyle Maritime Festival returns to Derry’s riverfront from Thursday June 25th to Sunday June 28th 2026.
With this year’s theme, “Forged by the Foyle: It’s in Our DNA,” the festival programme is packed with exciting activities designed to entertain visitors of all ages, transforming the city’s quayside and river into a vibrant playground of maritime magic.
From spectacular circus performances and interactive science experiences to water adventures, tall ships and family theatre, the 2026 festival promises something for everyone.
“The Foyle Maritime Festival is all about creating memorable experiences for families and communities to enjoy together,” explained Festival and Events Officer at Derry City and Strabane District Council Helena Hasson.
“This year’s programme has been carefully designed to offer something for every age group, from interactive learning and water activities to spectacular live entertainment and immersive cultural experiences.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors from near and far to celebrate everything that makes our riverfront and maritime heritage so special.”
One of the standout attractions for younger audiences is the return of Carnival of Colours, bringing four days of circus and street arts performances to The Dock behind Sainsbury’s.
Families can enjoy acrobatics, juggling, comedy shows, circus workshops, face painting and sea-themed fun from performers including Hikapee, Tumble Circus and Fraser Hooper.
Children and parents alike can also immerse themselves in marine discovery with the Loughs Agency Marine Machines and VR Experience, where visitors can meet live marine creatures, test their angling skills and explore underwater worlds through virtual reality headsets.
For families seeking to get active, the river itself will become a hub of excitement with a packed programme of inclusive water-based activities and demonstrations curated by the Loughs Agency. Meanwhile, thrill-seekers can watch breathtaking tricks and stunts as The Edge Wakeboarding Team returns with daily performances on the River Foyle.
Interactive learning also plays a major role in this year’s programme.
The Science of Water experience by FUSE Arts will deliver hands-on STEAM activities, storytelling and environmental workshops suitable for all generations.
Families can also explore the stories and heritage of the region through engaging exhibits and live character encounters at the Derry North Atlantic Museum festival zone.
Adding to the festival atmosphere will be family-friendly performances including Up the Foyle in a Bubble, a magical tale of mermaids, music and friendship, alongside the energetic circus theatre production Everywhere’s a Beach.
Visitors can also enjoy exploring an impressive fleet of visiting vessels, including the world-famous Galeon Andalucia and returning Tall Ship favourite The Phoenix.
A vast selection of locally sourced cuisine is available in the Legenderry Food Village and the Maritime Markets where all the vendors will offer reduced price meals for children.
The festival finale on Sunday night will feature a spectacular fireworks display over the River Foyle, bringing four days of maritime celebration to a dazzling close.
