A visit to Derry means stepping into a city buzzing with creativity and culture. From our iconic city Walls and powerful murals to our vibrant food scene and festivals, Derry is blending rich history with bold new energy in ways that makes it one of Ireland’s most exciting destinations. Whether you’re a lover of live music, local stories, outdoor adventures, or simply discovering somewhere with heart and character, Derry has something unforgettable waiting for you!

So, in no particular order (because, sure where would you even start?) here are 26 reasons why 2026 should be the year you finally come and say hello!

#1 Our People

They say that people are what make a place and nowhere is that truer that right here! The people of Derry are at the heart of what makes the city so special. Known for their warmth, quick wit, and natural gift for storytelling, locals have a way of making visitors feel instantly at home. Whether it’s a chat in the shops, a laugh in a pub, or directions that turn into a full conversation, it’s the genuine friendliness and humour of the people that stay with you long after you’ve left. In Derry, you don’t just visit the city — you’re welcomed into it.

#2 Only Completely Intact Walled City in Ireland

We are Ireland’s only completely intact Walled City, and one of the finest examples of a Walled City in Europe. Built between 1613 and 1618, taking a walk along this magnificent landmark is like stepping through a living timeline. So why not come take a wander on the Walls, the perfect starting point for any visit!

#3 Craft Village

Situated off the beaten track, the Craft Village is a true hidden gem right in the heart of the city and just a stone’s throw from the famous 17th-century Walls. Offering a welcome escape from the bustle of the main streets, visitors are treated to a collection of local craft and design shops, along with cafés and eateries that create the perfect oasis to pause and recharge. Beyond the Craft Village, Derry’s compact city centre makes shopping a pleasure, with independent boutiques, familiar high-street names, and locally owned stores all within easy walking distance — inviting visitors to wander, browse, and discover something uniquely Derry along the way.

#4 LegenDerry Food & Drink

Derry is a city that loves to eat, drink, and celebrate in equal measure. Its vibrant food and drink scene offers something for every taste — from award-winning restaurants and cosy cafés to pubs and eateries serving up locally sourced produce. Whether you’re after a traditional Irish pub with music spilling into the wee small hours, a trendy cocktail bar, or even the chance to pull your own pint, the city’s nightlife and pub culture won’t disappoint.

Food lovers can also get involved in the city’s exciting culinary events, like Love LegenDerry in February — a month-long celebration of the people, produce, and places that make Derry unforgettable. Expect chef collaborations, cookery classes, outdoor foodie cycles, and much more, giving you a true taste of what makes the city so special.
