Santa Claus will return to the streets of Strabane this Saturday November 26th to turn on the town’s Christmas lights as part of a Magical Winter Wonderland Procession.

Father Christmas will lead the parade along with Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Sandra Duffy and will be followed by a colourful array of festive characters and beautiful bespoke Christmas themed mobile installations.

The event will take place from 4.30pm to 5.30pm and will be one of the highlights of Council’s 2022 Christmas programme which includes the return of the renowned Walled City Christmas Markets and the Mayor's Magical Christmas Experience in The Alley Theatre on Sunday 4th December.

“I’m really looking forward to the parade and seeing Strabane town centre lit up in all its glory for the first time,” said Mayor Duffy.

“The excitement has been building around the town all week and Council’s maintenance and electrical teams have been working hard to ensure Strabane is sparkling on Saturday evening for what will be the official start of our Christmas programme for 2022.

“I’m particularly looking forward to welcoming families to the Alley Theatre for my Christmas Experience in December which will feature story telling, Christmas arts and crafts and appearance from the man himself Father Christmas.”

This Saturday’s parade will start in Dock Street, Railway Road, John Wesley Street, Main Street, Market Street and Castle Place, Castle Street, before coming out on to Abercorn Square and finishing on Railway Road.

The town centre will be alive with the sound of Christmas music with entertainment on offer leading up to the enchanting light switch-on.

From 2pm, Santa and Mrs Claus will be welcoming all the boys and girls into the town centre with storytelling and plenty of opportunities for a sneaky Christmas selfie with the main man himself.

Hilarious comedy duo, Two Snow Angels, will be performing in the town from 2:30pm until 4:30pm, as well as the LED Hoop Elf. The Class Act Choir will be singing all the festive favourites from 2pm to 3pm followed by the harmonious Strabane Brass Band who will be playing in Abercorn Square from 3pm to 4pm.

There will also be lots of free festive fun in The Alley Theatre from 1pm. Come and write your letter to Santa, and post it in the dedicated Post Box which takes the letters directly to Santa’s letterbox.   Children will be given the opportunity to make some Reindeer Food for Rudolf and his friends, as well as a special decoration for the Christmas Tree.

Mayor Duffy will host a special Magical Christmas Experience at The Alley on Sunday 4th December from 12pm to 5pm.  The North Pole Gang will arrive in Strabane and transform The Alley into a Winter Wonderland with circus games, storytelling, a puppet show and an exclusive chance to meet and greet Santa and all this friends.
