It’s been more than 35 years in the making and every year Derry Halloween just gets better and better.

It’s so good, not surprisingly it was voted the best place in the World to celebrate Halloween!

To give you a flavour of what to expect we’re talking the whole city coming to life for this spectacular festival. Couples, families, young people and old -  and even their dogs too -  all come dressed in the most spectacular Halloween outfits ready to wake up our 400-year-old City Walls. From ghosts, ghouls to the scariest looking witches you’ll ever meet; no one does Halloween quite like Derry.

If you’re looking for some inspiration, then check out this video from last year's festivities.

What to expect:

During Derry Halloween our whole city comes to life; at every turn there’s something going on. From our spectacular and colourful Carnival Parade, fabulous fireworks, mouth-watering Legenderry Food Market, the fearsome Little Horrors Family Programme, the stunning Samhain Sessions Music Programme and the Awakening of the Walls - there's something for everyone! Locals and visitors alike immerse themselves in folklore, feasting and festivities during the annual Samhain celebrations.

Its origins:

Derry Halloween started off as simple fancy dress party in the city’s Castle Bar back in 1985, the party ended up spilling out onto the streets of Derry - where everyone started joining in the Halloween celebrations.

The following year more people dressed up and the council became involved in organising the official Derry Halloween Carnival Parade.

But, the event has grown year on year, attracting thousands of revellers from all around the globe and being crowned the best Halloween Festivl in the World. The event programme showcases the city’s Legenderry Food offering, arts, and music as well as cultural, contemporary and family events.

Derry is Officially Best Halloween Destination In the World!

A USA Today Readers Poll voted Derry Halloween as the best Halloween destination, beating off the home of Dracular, Transylvania in Romania, and America's famous Salem in Massachusetts.
