Looking for inspiration for a quick getaway this summer with the kids? Then visit the historic Walled City of Derry~Londonderry, there’s bucket loads to do with kids both big and small, we guarantee it will be pretty legenderry with helpings of memories made along the way.

Day One!

You arrive in the Walled City and check into one of our fabulous family-friendly accommodation providers. We have a variety of accommodation providers to pick from whether it’s a hotel stay, self catering or B&B you’re looking for there’s plenty to choose from.

Pickled Duck Cafe

First stop – breakfast. Get fuelled up for the day ahead with a breakfast stop. There’s plenty of choice with lots of outdoor eating options included too. Venture to the Pickled Duck Café, there you can tuck into a delicious full Irish breakfast while admiring our impressive Guildhall from afar.

Visitor Information Centre

You’re fed and watered and now it’s time to start your adventure! First stop is the Visitor Information Centre - there you’ll be able to pick up everything you need including maps and guides and buy your Visitor Pass. The kids will love our big screens and theatre experience, detailing Amelia Earhart’s LegenDerry flight to the city. Try out our 360 experience too – it will give you quite the birds eye view of the city.

Tower Museum

Use your Visitor Pass to visit the Tower Museum. There you’ll see two permanent exhibitions, The Story of Derry and An Armada Shipwreck. The top of the Museum provides an open air viewing facility – perfect for those family selfies!

Guildhall

Next head to the Guildhall – the heart of the city! Sitting within reach of our famous 400-year-old City Walls, it’s one of the city’s most recognisable buildings. Here you’ll be able to learn all about the Plantation of Ulster.

Historic City Walls

Stretch your legs and enjoy a saunter along our City Walls – let the kids enjoy exploring the cannons along the way!

Nonnas

Feeling hungry? Check out Nonnas pizzas, the perfect place for the whole family to enjoy a meal together.

Horse Riding

Looking for a bit of adventure, then you won’t need to go far to find it. City of Derry Equestrian Centre and Crindle Stables both offer horse riding lessons.

Cinema

After all that adventure, it’s time for a bit of R&R – take the kids to the cinema and enjoy one of the latest family movies on offer. There’s plenty of choice too – stay in the city centre and visit the Omniplex or take a five minute car drive to Brunswick Moviebowl – there you’ll get the chance to enjoy the arcade games and might even fancy a spot of bowling too.

Quay West

There are many great family restaurants in and around the city to choose from. Get some inspiration here.  

Try Quay West, they have an amazing menu to suit all tastes.

Day Two

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, or if you’re looking for something different then there’s plenty of choice. Why not check out the Scullery Café.

Oakfire Adventures

Head to Oakfire and enjoy a tree trekking adventure, perfect for the whole family to enjoy.

The Play Shed

For families with younger kids, why not spend the morning at one of the soft play areas available – you can check them out here.

Primrose on the Quay 

What a morning you’ve had. Time now to unwind, enjoy a nice lunch. Why not try out Primrose. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Quay and enjoy a delicious lunch in their outdoor dinning area, overlooking the River Foyle.

St Columb's Park

After lunch, head to the park. We’ve lots of parks located in and around the city centre, including Brooke Park and St Columb’s Park.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

For families with teenagers and older, then why not let them have a go at stand up paddle boarding along the River Foyle – it’s a great way to see the city from a different perspective.

Walled City Brewery

Walk across the Peace Bridge and head to the Walled City Brewery.

Day Three

Beach Time! Did you know we’re just a 20 minute drive to the nearest beach. Head to Lisfannon Beach in Donegal, and enjoy a morning of splashing around and building sandcastles.

Sandwich Co 

Time to grab a quick bite before your next stop. Check out the Sandwich Co - with lots of choice for adults and kids alike. 

Sperrin Fun Farm

Take a short drive to Sperrin Fun Farm in Claudy where the kids can enjoy an afternoon feeding some animals, go on a quad train ride, jump and play on the outdoor climb frames and activities.

Silver Street

After a busy day of outdoor fun, unwind at Silver Street.
