About
Founded in 2000 by Musical Director Dónal Doherty, Codetta has built a stellar reputation for its choral excellence. The choir has performed extensively both nationally and internationally, including in the United States, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, Norway, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Mexico.
The choir’s founding Musical Director, Dónal Doherty, has had significant contributions to the music scene: he has served as Director of Music in St Eugene’s Cathedral, Head of Music in St Columb’s College, and Head of Music Services for the Western and Southern Education and Library Boards. He was co-founder, along with Timothy Allen in St Columb’s Cathedral, of the Two Cathedrals’ Festival in 1992. He established the City of Derry Civic Choirs in 1997 and was appointed Director of the Music Promise initiative as part of the inaugural UK City of Culture programme in Derry in 2013. In the same year he founded the City of Derry International Choir Festival, now a central fixture in the city and region’s cultural calendar.

Codetta and the Irish Doctors Orchestra
30th November 2025 / 4:00pm / Guildhall
Codetta is delighted to join with the Irish Doctors Orchestra for a very special performance of Poulenc's Gloria in the city’s impressive Guildhall.
The Irish Doctors Orchestra (IDO) is a unique all-island fellowship of medical professionals who are also classically trained musicians. The concept of the IDO provides an opportunity for medics from across Ireland to get together and create music as a therapy to the stresses and challenges they face in their professional lives.
The orchestra comes together for rehearsals over a period of days which includes coaching by professional musicians and culminates in a public performance. Venue hire, professional coaching and other costs are all financed by the participating doctors which allows proceeds from the concert to be donated to a local nominated charity in the city of the concert.
