About
Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin acts as the heart of the thriving Irish language, music and cultural scene in Derry. With weekly events, numerous annual festivals, a programme of classes, and a bilingual café open to the public, all are welcome to visit and get involved!
With roots as an organisation back in 1984, the purpose-built, city-cenre building opened in 2011. Since then, they have hosted the All-Ireland Fleadh in 2013, which attracted over 430,000 visitors to the city. Their annual flagship international music festival in February, IMBOLC, has gained a reputation as a "bespoke festival for a bespoke city", as according to the Guardian. Week-to-week, you can expect bilingual dance and yoga classes, informal Irish-language conversation groups, and the odd traditional Irish music session in their café.
The café is an independent venture of the owners of Derry-based LO&SLO, focusing on locally sourced produce, made fresh and on-site, with a dedication to top-quality coffee.
Be sure to follow their socials and up-to-date on what's on at An Chultúrlann, at @culturlanndoire on Instagram, Facebook, and X.
Sos Caifé, the on-site café, is open from 9:00am-3:00pm Monday to Friday.
All facilities are open to both Irish and English speakers.
