'Derry Girls' season two filming gets underway
Wednesday November 13
TOURISTS visiting Derry this week may find themselves rubbing shoulders with the cast of Derry Girls, as the must-watch TV show starts filming its second season.
The Channel 4 sitcom will be filming scenes for the 1990s show in the city on Thursday and Friday this week (November 16 and 17) and visitors to the Walled City may even be able to get a glimpse of the cast filming.
The excitement for season two is already mounting among fans, with cast members sharing behind the scenes photos.
Set in the 1990s, the first episode was watched by more than 2.5m people. It follows the lives of a group of teenagers from Derry, and one of the girl’s male cousins from England as they navigate their way through school life in the 1990s during the Troubles.
It is expected that tourism numbers will increase following on from the popular shows, as visitors to the 2013 City of Culture look for the real ‘Derry Girls’ experience.
Odhran Dunne of Visit Derry, said the show has given the city a ‘real profile’ and he looks forward to welcoming more visitors to Derry as a result of its success.
