City of Derry Jazz Festival

The biggest and best Jazz Festival makes its return to Derry~Londonderry from 2nd - 6th May 2019. 

Back for its 18th year, the Jazz Festival features artists from all over the world and will attract more than 70,000 revellers over the bank holiday weekend. 
This year’s headliner is Marc Almond, who will perform in the Millennium Forum on Friday 3rd May. Some popular acts returning to the Festival include the Red Stripe Band, The Roaring Forties, the Ska Beat, Jaydee Brassband and Heavy Beat Brass Band.

New acts heading ot he Walled City in 2019 include Mr Wilson’s Second Liners, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Motown Gold, Kitty LaRoar and Marc Almond. Also featured will be a special Education Programme in the run-up to the Festival, as well as our Jazz Hubs at The Playhouse, Bennigans, and Great Hall at Magee.

City of Derry Jazz FestivalVisitors to the city can avail of the Jazz Master Classes, with respected Jazz musicians including drummer Darren Beckett and Adam Nussbaum, multiinstrumentalist George Colligan and bassist Mark Egan.

Situated between the Wild Atlantic Way and the Causeway Coastal Route, Derry~Londonderry is one of the finest examples of Walled Cities in Europe today.A recognised foodie destination and home to a number of award winning restaurants, the compact Walled City is an ideal place to take a short break holiday.

Along with the Jazz Festival, there are a number of other high profile events taking place this year including the city’s well-known Halloween Festival – which was dubbed the best Halloween Festival in the World by USA today in 2015 – and a celebration of Walls 400 – the 400th anniversary of the historic City Walls.

The city will also play host to golfing enthusiasts when The Open Royal Portrush takes place in July. Derry is the city with the shortest drive to the golf ‘Opens’.
